Welcome to the Friends of Tulatuwx

” We would like to acknowledge that we are on the unceded traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People who are still present, and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.”

Our Story

Our Story

Tulatuwx, previously known as Terminal 105, has been a Port of Seattle restoration site to remediate the land polluted by the previously existing boat repair facility there. Since about 1995 the Port in conjunction with Earth Corps and other groups combined to begin conversion of the property to a self-sustaining reforested habitat. We strive to continue this effort to bring this section of the river to a place that contributes to the resurrection of the salmon population and tree habitat.

Our Work

The volunteers who have spent their hours at Tulatuwx have been guided by an interest in how environmental action can be translated into fundamental changes in habitat, changes in perceptions and actions of social and governmental agencies and how these can work together for a better community. They have not been disappointed as the evolution of actions taken at Tulatuwx have been transferred up and down the Duwamish, at other sites and as experimental trials at Tulatuwx itself.

In the last 10 years we have seen the site transform from a rubble of a beach front to a thriving young forest. This process has been only accomplished through the mixed efforts of volunteers from all reaches of this community, youth, elderly, students, schools, camps and many others. All have come away with a new outlook on what a little can do and how far it can go to build an amazing site that produces so much for the habitat and can serve as a bridge for industry and community to come together.

Currently we are working on new Grove plantings, Pollinator site establishment, Hugel Kulture development and the ongoing blackberry maintenance.

Port of Seattle, Duwamish River Coalition and Pollinator Pathway NW, have been instrumental in our success.
